Stamped and Signed: Malta’s 19th Century Maritime Story
The event was introduced by Atlas Insurance CEO Matthew von Brockdorff.
He was followed by Catherine Calleja, Atlas Insurance Executive Director and Company Secretary, who provided an explanation on the significance of the findings within the context of 19th century merchant trade, as well as the origins of the Malta Chamber and insurance industry.
Archivist Nikolai Debono shared a light overview of his research, exposing a number of interesting anecdotes and stories unearthed from his research. He also shone a light on the individuals who shaped our island’s seafaring legacy and decoding some of the paintings and other artefacts that can be found at the Malta Chamber.
To complement this journey through history, Atlas Insurance also treated guests to a culinary experience curated and prepared by Heritage Malta’s Taste History inspired by the food of that era. This taste experience was presented by Historian Liam Gauci.
