Zane Pace (Motorsport) and Matthew Galea Soler (Athletics) are the winners of February’s Atlas Youth Athlete of the Month Award.

Zane Pace delivered one of the strongest international performances ever achieved by a Maltese competitor during Round 3 of the WSK Super Master Series in Viterbo. He started the weekend in superb fashion by taking pole position in qualifying, then underlined his pace by winning his prefinal.

Pace went on to finish first in the final, a remarkable result at one of the most prestigious and fiercely contested karting championships in the world. His pole position, prefinal win and podium finish highlighted the scale of his achievement against a top European field.

Meanwhile, Matthew Galea Soler also enjoyed an excellent period, continuing to strengthen his reputation as one of Malta’s most promising young athletes. Galea Soler is ranked first in Malta in the 300 metres and 600 metres, while also standing out in the 400 metres with a personal best of 46.63 seconds.

These performances continue to underline his potential as one of Malta’s brightest young athletics talents.

The Atlas Youth Athlete of the Month Award for February was presented to the winners by Atlas Insurance CEO and Managing Director Matthew von Brockdorff. The Malta Sports Journalists Association was represented by General Secretary Joanna Camilleri.
Zane Pace’s presentation will be held at a later date when he returns to Malta.

This award is a joint initiative of the Malta Sports Journalists Association and Atlas Insurance. The adjudicating panel of this award takes note of all the youths’ achievements of the month under review and at the same time invites local sport associations and federations to send in their nominations for consideration if they feel that any of their under 21 athletes have distinguished themselves during that month. All the monthly winners are eligible for the annual award.
