Kai Azzopardi (Duathlon) and Jacob Micallef (Motorsport) are the winners of March’s Atlas Youth Athlete of the Month Award.
Kai Azzopardi delivered an outstanding performance during the National Sprint Duathlon Championships 2026, where he was crowned men’s national champion after producing one of the strongest displays of the event across all categories.
The championships produced a high level of competition throughout, with Azzopardi standing out through a composed and determined race to secure the national title. His performance underlined his consistency and potential as one of Malta’s most promising young athletes in endurance sport.
Meanwhile, Jacob Micallef also enjoyed an excellent month, securing his first Formula 4 podium at the Circuito de Jarama during Round 2 of the Spanish Winter Championship.
The Maltese driver delivered a composed drive in March, finishing in sixth position on track and second as a Rookie. He thus sealed his first Formula 4 podium, further confirming his progress at international level.
These performances continue to underline the potential of both athletes as two of Malta’s brightest young sporting talents.
The Atlas Youth Athlete of the Month Award for March was presented to the winners by Robert Micallef, Chief Commercial Officer of Atlas Insurance. The Malta Sports Journalists Association was represented by President Antvin Monseigneur.
This award is a joint initiative of the Malta Sports Journalists Association and Atlas Insurance. The adjudicating panel of this award takes note of all the youths’ achievements of the month under review and at the same time invites local sport associations and federations to send in their nominations for consideration if they feel that any of their under 21 athletes have distinguished themselves during that month. All the monthly winners are eligible for the annual award.
