Emily Ruggier and Mireya Bugeja are the winners of April’s Atlas Youth Athlete of the Month Award

Emily Ruggier (Artistic Swimming) and Mireya Bugeja (Athletics) are the winners of April’s Atlas Youth Athlete of the Month Award.

Emily Ruggier delivered an excellent performance at the National Artistic Swimming Championships, where she won bronze in the Junior Solo Free, Senior Solo Free and Senior Solo Technical categories.

Her results across three different categories underline her consistency, technical quality and competitive maturity in a demanding discipline that requires precision, control and expression.

Meanwhile, Mireya Bugeja also enjoyed an outstanding month in athletics, making headlines in North Carolina, USA, after breaking the Maltese national Under 23 record in the women’s 1500m.

Bugeja also clinched victory in the event at the Wake Forest Invitational, clocking an impressive time of 4:23.22. Her performance also secured qualification for the World Under 20 Championships after she comfortably met the required MQS.

These performances continue to underline the potential of both athletes as two of Malta’s brightest young sporting talents.

The Atlas Youth Athlete of the Month Award for April was presented to the winners by Robert Micallef, Chief Commercial Officer of Atlas Insurance. The Malta Sports Journalists Association was represented by Chris Francalanza.
Mireya Bugeja’s presentation will be held at a later date when she returns to Malta.

This award is a joint initiative of the Malta Sports Journalists Association and Atlas Insurance. The adjudicating panel of this award takes note of all the youths’ achievements of the month under review and at the same time invites local sport associations and federations to send in their nominations for consideration if they feel that any of their under 21 athletes have distinguished themselves during that month. All the monthly winners are eligible for the annual award.

Nominations for this award may be sent via email to [email protected]. The rules and regulations of the award can be viewed on the website www.maltasportsjournalists.com.
