For the Local category in December, the award has been presented to the Hibernians Girls Under 16 Basketball team, following their impressive victory in the Memorial Cup, where they defeated Luxol 94–47 in the final, played on 8th December. The performance highlighted the team’s dominance and continued progress within Maltese youth basketball.
Karate athlete Jenna Awad Attia has been named the December winner of the Atlas Youth Athletes of the Month Award for the International category, following an outstanding performance at the WKF K1 Youth League held in Jesolo, Italy, over the past weekend.
Awad Attia clinched the bronze medal in the highly competitive event, becoming the first Maltese athlete ever to finish on the podium in the kata category at a Youth League competition. The 14-year-old competed against 96 athletes from 33 different countries, including Spain, Germany, the United States, Mexico, France, Hong Kong, Switzerland, Sweden and India, marking a historic achievement for Maltese karate on the international stage.
The Atlas Youth Athletes of the Month Award was presented by Atlas Insurance Chief Commercial Officer Robert Micallef. The Malta Sports Journalists Association was represented by the General Secretary, Joanna Camilleri.
This award is a joint initiative of the Malta Sports Journalists Association and Atlas Insurance. The adjudicating panel reviews all youth sporting achievements during the month under consideration and invites local sports associations and federations to submit nominations for athletes under the age of 21 who have distinguished themselves. All monthly winners are automatically eligible for the annual award.
