As part of the Atlas Wellness Programme, a first aid course was held for Atlas Insurance staff recently. The course forms part of a series of information sessions on health issues and awareness which are organized for the benefit of Atlas employees.

The course was given by Paul Spiteri, Chief Instructor and Senior Trainer Development Advisor for St. John Ambulance Malta. He is certified to facilitate First Aid and AED training, and also to train and certify prospective first aid instructors.

The session was based on illustrated presentations and video clips to help attendees understand better how to recognise certain conditions. Mr Spiteri covered a number of topics, including an action plan on how to manage an incident, assessing an unconscious casualty, as well as information on how to proceed when facing situations like angina and heart attack, stroke, epilepsy, bleeding, burns, choking and eye injuries. The session also included information related to children and babies, which also made it relevant outside the work environment.
