Atlas supports ALIVE Charity Foundation cyclists

For the fourth year running, Atlas Insurance is proud to support the ALIVE Charity Foundation in its efforts to raise money in aid of cancer research. The ALIVE cycling team will be cycling over 1000kms in 7 days through Copenhagen, Berlin and Warsaw.

“We are happy to support ALIVE – a inspiring group of positive, enthusiastic and determined cyclists who are not only raising money for a good cause, they are also promoting a healthy lifestyle through exercise,” said Jackie Attard Montalto, Atlas Marketing and HR Manager.

ALIVE Charity Foundation are pioneers in raising funds for medical research in Malta. In just four years Alive have donated over €310,000 to the Research, Innovation and Development Trust (RIDT) towards funding the fight to prevent cancer in Malta through medical research. The money donated has benefitted three Ph.D. scholarships with two students researching breast cancer, within the department of Physiology and Biochemistry. A third student is conducting her PhD studies in brain cancer that mainly affects children, within the department of Anatomy.
It has been revealed by research that children need more than only medical care to heal and recover, as wholly as possible. They need to be able to “play.” This is one way to help them psychologically and emotionally, whilst they undergo the physical treatments. This year ALIVE have invested another €80,000 euro in a project to renovate up to high standards an indoor and outdoor play area within Sir Anthony Mamo Oncology Centre. These two areas where specially designed to empower children by helping them become more comfortable in a hospital environment and giving them the opportunity to explore their inner world, in a language that they are fluent in, ‘play’.
This is the 5th ALIVE Cycling Challenge, but the first to include both mountain bikes and road bikes. There will be two parallel routes, one for mountain bikes which will include more trails, and another for road bikes that will be slightly longer but on asphalted surfaces
